WildSpitze favourite hikes

One of the most popular hiking destinations in Pitztal Valley is Gletscherstube. The mountain hut is located at 1,915 metres above sea level and can be reached via several routes: from Mittelberg in approximately 30 minutes via the Sagenweg path or the Wirtschaftsweg (cycling path).

From the village of Mandarfen, the Talweg (cycling path) leads up to Gletscherstube in around an hour. Those starting higher up can choose the circular route from the top station for the Rifflsee cable car via Mittelberg (Waldsteig/Gletscherstube) – taking approximately 2.5 hours. Ideal for a short tour or as a stopover.

The tour to Braunschweigerhütte is for experienced, strong and sure-footed mountaineers. The ascent leads from Mittelberg via well-maintained paths with steep sections and serpentines in high Alpine terrain up to 2,759 metres. Along the way, you will enjoy impressive views of glaciers and the surrounding three-thousand-metre peaks.

If you want to shorten your ascent, you can use the Pitztal Glacier cable car and combine altitude with panoramic views. A demanding, iconic mountain tour for people who want to aim high during their hiking holiday in Pitztal Valley.

Mittagskogel is a demanding mountain tour in the high Alpine terrain above Pitztal Glacier. The starting point is the top station for the Gletscherexpress cable car, from where an Alpine trail leads uphill over rocky terrain and exposed passages.

Sure-footedness, a high level of fitness and Alpine experience are required. At the top, you will be rewarded with sweeping views of glaciers and the surrounding mountain landscape – a quiet moment at high altitude, far away from the hustle and bustle of life down below.

Water & waterfalls – the quiet power of Pitztal Valley

Going through Pitztal Valley, water is with you every step of the way, flowing down from the mountains, filling up streams, plunging over rocks and laying still in clear lakes. Sometimes it's enough to dip your hands in ice-cold water, sometimes you need to jump in at the deep end. Water is refreshing, recuperating and grounding. A seemingly simple part of the landscape, it is precisely where the power lies.
